Proposed Collection: Space and Fabric

Iterative Designing

Space and Fabric is a ready-to-wear Autumn/Winter collection inspired by the traditional Japanese constructive technique of ‘ma’. This technique of design refers to the space in-between the body and the fabric - the unoccupied pause that allows elements to breathe, creating a sense of balance and harmony.

Tones within the collection remain quite muted, staying to the ideal of balance, i.e., ‘yin and yang’, with the use of deep greys and soft whites, with a touch of blush pink and bleached cream as highlights. Garments within the collection are subtle hyperbolised versions of their contemporary counterparts, featuring a range of both wide and slightly fitted shapes and silhouettes.

The designing of the pieces were done in a way as to conceal markers of the wearers body, allowing for the clothing to speak for itself. The pieces additionally feature understated fabrications and fabric manipulations as to not deter audiences from the prioritised shape; they simply provide greater appreciation for the garments as a whole.

This capsule collection aims for each piece to be an addition to anyone’s wardrobe. Each garment is strategically crafted and designed to provide the wearer the simultaneous feeling of elegance and comfort.
